Our Values
Hiccup Farm is a regenerative farm, pasture-raising sheep and chickens for our family and our customers. At the heart of our operation we are homesteaders, providing for our family. When our organic garden surpasses our families needs, we want to open it up to our community to enjoy as well. We hope to encourage others to shop with local farmers for high quality meat and produce, and even to grow their own home gardens because there is nothing quite like knowing exactly where and who your food comes from!
We believe the land we manage is a gift from God, which isn’t to be taken lightly. Our mission is to steward our land in a way that provides high quality food for our family, friends, and community while continually nourishing the livestock and regenerating the soil. Our farm mission is centered around three core values: Nourish the soil. Nourish our livestock. Nourish people.
Nourish the Soil:
We believe regenerative farming is the best way to rebuild our soil with the nutrients it needs to provide nutrient-rich grass and forage for our livestock. We accomplish this by rotationally grazing our sheep and poultry, which simply means we frequently move them to fresh pasture to evenly spread their manure across the soil as a natural fertilizer.
Nourish our Livestock:
We believe rotationally grazing our livestock, avoiding GMO corn/soy feed, and medicating only when necessary produces the healthiest life for our animals and ultimately the healthiest meat for our customers. They spend all of their lives grazing fresh pastures, treated with utmost love from our whole family. Our chickens are humanely harvested on farm and our lambs are harvested by trusted, USDA-inspected abattoirs.
Nourish People:
We believe people need nutrient rich, local foods to fuel their bodies best. What began as a desire to sustainably feed our family the best food we could, expanded as a desire to reach our community. Our farm meats and produce are certified Sweet Grown Alabama, always raised right here on farm, to bring you the freshest farm goods possible.
